2000 Scholarships/Award Recipients

Outstanding Environmental Professional Award:

Each year, the Louisiana Environmental Health Association awards an Outstanding Environmental Professional Award and a Registered Sanitarian Award in recognition of professional excellence and commitment to the protection and enhancement of the environment and the health and welfare of the people of Louisiana. In 2000, the Sanitarian Award was not given. Jodi Guillory Miller is this year's recipient for the Outstanding Environmental Professional Award. Ms. Miller is a 1978 graduate of McNeese State University, and a 20-year veteran of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. She acquired designation as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager in 1992 and a Louisiana Certified Public Manager in 1996. She is Past President of both the Louisiana Environmental Health Association and the Louisiana Chapter of Hazardous Materials Managers. She continues to serve LEHA as a board member. Ms. Miller is also active in other Environmental associations and is a Steering Committee member of the Louisiana Environmental Leadership Program.


Frank L. Dautriel Memorial Scholarships:

LEHA also presents two educational scholarship awards; one for outstanding undergraduate work, and one for outstanding graduate work in an environmental science, health, or engineering degree program at an accredited Louisiana university. The Frank L. Dautriel Memorial Scholarships are awarded by LEHA to encourage outstanding students to study and work in an environmental health related field. Hieu Duy Troung is the recipient of this year's undergraduate scholarship. Mr. Troung is a 1996 graduate of Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge, and is presently attending LSU where he is working on a Bachelor of Science in Bio-Environmental Engineering. He is a member of the Biological Engineering Student Organization and Air and Waste Management Association.

Jessica Lynn Fontenot is the recipient of this year's graduate scholarship. Ms. Fontenot is a 1991 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Ville Platte, a 1996 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Sustainable Resources, and is currently working on a Masters in Environmental Science at McNeese State University. She is a member of LEHA, NEHA, American Chemical Society, Society of Environmental Toxicology & Chemistry, as well as other associations.
